Justice for Janitors: Rally and Leafletting
May 15, 2018 , 4:00pm-4:45pm
To honour the struggle of the Justice for Janitors campaign, after taking direction from affected workers and their union, Solidarity Halifax invites our members and supporters in the broader community to show up for racial justice in relation to the Black janitors who formerly cleaned Founders Square.
Please join us on TUESDAY MAY 15th at 4pm until 4:45pm outside the RBC on Lower Water Street, the back of 1871 Hollis Street (owned by Armour Group, cleaned by Deep Down), as we rally and leaflet to demand justice for racialized workers. Let’s affirm that Black Workers Matter, and that Janitors are Not Disposable!
We believe that:
– Armour Group should adopt a responsible
contractor policy with successor rights, and that Deep
Down should publicly commit to applying successor rights
and continuity of employment in their contracts
– Armour Group and Deep Down should acknowledge
that Black workers and livelihoods matter
– Armour Group and Deep Down should take steps to
ensure that racial discrimination cannot become a factor
in future contract take-overs
It is important to keep the pressure on as the workers’ complaint makes its way through the human rights commission. Please join us so we can let the workers know that Nova Scotians will fight for racial and economic justice. An injury to one is an injury to all!
