What is Northern Pulp, and why does it seem to be so divisive?

What are some of the problems people have with Northern Pulp, and what are some of the changes being proposed?

This free public event will be a panel discussion that brings together Mi’kmaq and non-Mi’kmaq people engaged in struggles relating to the Northern Pulp mill and treatment plant in Pik’tuk / Pictou County, Nova Scotia.

The facilitator will have presenters draw connections between the struggles of workers, Mi’kmaq people of Pik’tuk, and non-Mi’kmaq people living near the Northern Pulp mill and treatment plant. The discussion will contextualize Northern Pulp in the bigger picture of liberal democracy, corporate power, and how things can be done differently.

After the presentations, audience members will have a chance to submit questions to help guide the discussion. The event will conclude with remarks about paths forward on the some of the issues brought to light by Northern Pulp.
